I'm bored and procrastinating... so I'm going to review a personal favorite and picked to be a format best from at least 3/09 to 9/09.
Dark Strike Fighter
7/2600/1800
DARK/Machine/Synchro/Effect
Effect: Tribune one monster you control to inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster's level x 200.
This card is going to make for an interesting six months. Let's take a brief look at this card's stats:
Level 7: I would say neutral, but with the release of Black Salvo and Blackwing Gale of the Whirlwind, along with Psychic Commander and future Level 3 Tuners this card is going to see easy play. Also The Tricky and Instant Fusion are going to make this card viable with Level 2 Tuners as well. So positive.
2600 ATK: it is above Stardust Dragon and most other high level monsters (excluding the 2800 troublemakers) so it is not a bad score. Timing it correct and it is devastating... otherwise a player will just have to use it just for its effect.
1800 DEF: Well, it stands up to most low level monsters, so I say that it is pretty good. Still a positive.
DARK: Positive because it can help benefit most card effects that specify DARK monsters... however since it is a Synchro monster, it is not quite as many as it could possible do.
Machine: Positive because it reaps the benefits of Machine support... which is Limiter Removal and... and... did I mention it was a DARK monster?
Effect: Simple equation sums up its effect:
effect damage= # of monsters tribuned x (tribuned monster's level x 200)
So for a breakdown of damage that is:
LV = Damage
1 = 200
2 = 400
3 = 600
4 = 800
5 = 1000
6 = 1200
7 = 1400
8 = 1600
9 = 1800
10 = 2000
11 = 2200
12 = 2400
Greed Quasar = The stars are the limit.
So simple breakdown is to use this effect on as many monsters as possible either attacking over an opponent for a quick finish or tribune those nifty monsters such as Metal Reflect Slime for a huge Alpha Strike. Of course though, considering the swarming nature this game has taken on, the former will be the most likely, especially in Blackwings, Lightsworn, and almost any Synchro based deck. Also there is an OTK with Advanced Ritual which is worth a second look, so the sky is the limit one what this card can do... which is not always a good thing.
Here is a break down of the damage it can inflict by itself.
An attack of 2600 + 1400 is 4000 damage; that's half a player's Life Points. Throw in something like Stardust Dragon(/Assault Mode) and you get 2500 + 2600 + 1400 + 1600 (2000) and the damage comes out to be 8100 (8500). That is an OTK. Also in Blackwings, tacking it on the tail of a swarm spells game very often, and it can provide out of nowhere comebacks in numerous other decks.
My advice, grab as many Dark Strike Fighter's as you can and abuse the daylights out of them until about... July. Then dump them except hold onto one copy in case Konami thinks that restricting Dark Strike Fighter will stop its rampage... then sell that one off in January.
Summary:
LV 7 [~]
ATK [+]
DEF [~+]
DARK [+]
Machine [+]
Effect [Broken]
Key:
+ is positve
- is negative
~ Neutral
~+ Neutral, but it doesn't hurt it.
Ratings:
Tradition: 5/5 I don't know how well Synchro monsters work in Traditional, but Dark Strike Fighter is a good reason to find out.
Advanced: 5/5 It is so far the best Level 7 Synchro we have so far and it can clinch games easily.
Art: 6/5 I so wish this card did not deserve to be banned because it has a profound picture.
