What happens when you equip gearfried the iron knight with blast with chain?

I'm also going to be asking a level 2 or 3 judge about this, because this is something that stumps me. Hell blast with chain has so many technicalities to its effect that it's hard to figure out.

Wouldn't GTIK die cause it comes a equip card after actavation?

Blast with Chain resolves and equips to Gearfried, then Gearfried's effect kicks in and destroys it thus Blast with Chain then gets its effect.

I'll justify that with a similar ruling from Netrep:

[Re: Gearfried the Swordmaster] The effect of "Gearfried the Swordmaster" will activate even if a Trap Card is equipped to him (such as "Metalmorph" or "Blast with Chain").
