I went to A to Z last friday to play in the draft. Before it started i did a few trades over in yugioh and was able to get a mirror force, when soul and his sister asked if I would trade i said sure. I saw a few things, but not 100% i want to trade a mirror force for it just yet, i guess we'll see.
Anyway drafting started so I wasn't able to finish the deal (Don't worry, still willing to trade/sell a mirror force if you guys want it, i doubt it'll be traded anytime soon anyway). I got second pod.
Anyway I crack my first pack, not really sure what any of the cards will be like, pick the red timeshifted card which was a main card the entire day, wildfire emissary i think it's called? Yeah i played it in every match <3 and it was an all right card there so I was glad. The pack goes around and I find myself mostly with red and black cards, with 1 blue. I pretty much already have my colors set without even realizing it (usually I don't focus on any colors until second pack). I noticed the kid to the left of me is drafting heavy black, and the kid to the right of me is drafting heavy red + random rares (Ancestral Visions) and time shifted cards. The irony that I was drafting black/red with a small blue splash.
As I'm drafting blue, the last picks around the table are usually half blue and I grab them cause the rest is white.
Second pack comes my way, and holy frickin crap! I get lotus bloom in my pack. I figure since i'm running a blue splash it would definitely be useful if i'm missing out on one color or something. Unfortunately it only helped me with my finisher, but it happens. Anyway i get passed sudden death, smallpox, that madness kill card, and all of these other cool black cards. My black presence becomes strong, and halfway through second pack I get passed quite a few red cards (there was a pack with pandemonium and grapeshot coming my way, the kid to my right drafted pandemonium though =() so I grab grapeshot, which is a cool card if you get storm off.
I get a few red flanking dudes, and DERPA STRENGTH! during this pack.
third pack is less memorable except my stupidity passing an excellent finisher for some decent black card. Of course the guy next to me is drafting black and I knew either one wouldn't make its way around. I draft fricking funeral charm, which would be a better card to use in standard as opposed to a limited format cause of its versitality.
The finisher is that cabal tower thing. I misread the effect. It has suspend 2, but I thought it was suspend 5, and I also came to realize after I passed it that even if they prolong losing half they'll just lose more of their stuff, and no matter which part of the game you get it off, you're going to make a lot of damage, or screw up their plan completely. Stupidest move ever, and i might've done better.
Anyway I suck at draft so here's how it goes.
Round 1: Me vs.
I don't know many of the names that frequent the magic tournaments because I go to them like once every 2-3 months, and I can't recall this guy's name cause i haven't played him before. Anyway game 1 is long, with me holding onto a kill all game waiting for his finisher, until its too late and he just barely mills me. Very close game that took pretty much the entire hour.

Round 2: Me vs Cheyenne (spelling?)
I'm not sure If i spelt your name right, sorry if it's wrong, i'll correct it. Anyway I've seen him at a to z before, but never actually played against him. This was going to be interesting. Basically he suspends a bunch of blue flyers, i'm playing only 1 card to stop flyers. I scoop up within 5 turns each.

Round 3: Me vs can't remember, james I think?
I'm terrible with names i'll admit, and I feel like a derpa sped cause he and I go to the same frickin school and I've seen him in the hallways a lot!
Anyway he gets mushroom men out, we go through retarded feeble strength episodes, and he eventually wins out 2-1 Game 3 I found out he was 1-1 anyway, and since I was 0-2 as it was if I had won either way I would've conceded and given him a chance to make it to playoffs cause being downplayed sucks!

I'm terrible at draft. I should probably look up some info regarding drafting and learn how to make my experiences with limited play better. Normally I end up going 1-2 at drafts (though I did go 2-1 at a draft for guildpact with orzhov, which is why I love using cards from that guild) or in this case 0-3 (which ironically was with a different color combo, normally I play blue/black which isn't a good limited color combo cause it's slow unless you have flyers and fear or something, this time I went with red/black with like 6 card blue splash). If anyone knows some good sites to learn how to make the best of my drafting experiences and possibly start doing better i'd like to get some links, or even just a few tips for drafting from the users here, cause time spiral looks like a fun limited future.
