Help anyone? I've ignored this for ages. What do I buy to start with?

Depends if you play casual or tournament, and if tournament what format you want to play. If you just want to start playing casually and such definitely buy a precon of some sort and a few packs (depending on the cost and your wallet, though at minimum try to grab at least 3-6 packs of 9th edition), but there's more dedication if you want to play competitively, unless you just want to play limited formats like sealed deck or booster draft (booster draft is pretty popular)

This can a fairly good way to start into MTG but here is a little tidbit from someone who sells the stuff for a store to even get one Fat Pack they have to Purchase a Case (12 Booster Boxes ) in order to just get one. Keep this in mind when asknig for one at your local card store especially if MTG is not the store's main Focus
